On August 13, 1908, Grass Lake held a Sports Day after local business men meeting at the town hall decided to go ahead and make it a success. Activities included a 50-yard dash, girls race, fat man's race for those 200 pounds or over, wheelbarrow race, sack race, three-legged race, and a trotting race for horses with records barred. After the racing events, a dance was held at the town hall. A goodly number of Chelsea residents attended, and a photograph of the occasion also features Boland Line interurban trolley car #47 headed west through Grass Lake.
