The Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History in Bryan, Texas, is a regional center for science, nature, and cultural history, with collections spanning archaeology, botany, geology, zoology, and paleontology. Its best-known holdings include the Frithiof Fossil Collection, featuring a fifteen-inch Paleozoic trilobite, Ice Age animal skeletons, and notable dinosaur material from Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, and other species. A hadrosaurid tail with preserved fossilized skin is especially rare. The museum also displays complete skeletons of Psittacosaurus and Confuciusornis and nearly complete early mammals, fish, and reptiles. It briefly gained national attention when NASA considered it for a retired space shuttle orbiter, though the bid failed.
