Founded in 1982 by Dick Lee, the Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Fame is a nonprofit museum display dedicated to preserving and sharing Michigan’s motor racing history while honoring people who shaped the sport, from leading competitors to contributors in other roles. Incorporated that year as a Michigan non-stock 501(c)(3) corporation, it is now located at the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners alongside the History of Stock Car Racing exhibit. From 1994 through 2006, it was housed at the R. E. Olds Transportation Museum in Lansing. Inductees are chosen through public biography submissions and sealed-ballot voting, with eligibility tied to long racing careers and strong Michigan connections.
