The Raymer townsite was purchased on February 8, 1888, by Emma Courtright for $187.09 and sold on October 6, 1888, to Lincoln Land Co. for $1000.00. Its first election was held in fall 1888, its first post office opened on September 28, 1888, and its first newspaper, the Raymer Ranger, began on March 15, 1888. In spring 1889, the first five lots were sold, but most everyone had left by 1894. A second town was revived in 1909, a school was built in 1915, and the town was incorporated in 1919. It was named for railroad engineer George Raymer, and in 1988 New Raymer, Colorado, had a population of 92.
