Blue Springs State Park in southeastern Alabama centers on a clear underground spring that feeds two swimming pools with cool water and has shaped the site for generations. The area developed as a resort in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with Harrison's Hotel, the Blue Springs Hotel, a bathhouse, and concrete-lined pools helping make it a health-spa destination. It also served as a gathering place for political rallies, horse-trading events, and Confederate reunions. After passing to the state, it became a state park in 1963. Today it combines its historic spring-swimming tradition with camping, fishing, cabins, and expanded hiking trails.
