Vicory Barker Tunstall was born west of Crockett and became a noted musician. A barber by trade, he studied violin in boyhood, began teaching at 16, and opened Tunstall Music House at 20. He served as Houston County district clerk from 1918 to 1922, traveled East Texas for 50 years with a band that included his ten children, founded the World's Championship Fiddlers' Festival in 1937, and at the 1951 state fair was proclaimed champion fiddler of Texas. He was married first to Emma Virginia English and second to Mrs. Lillie Shanks. He was recorded in 1973.
