The Korean Bell of Friendship in Angel’s Gate Park, San Pedro, is a monumental bronze bell given by South Korea to the United States as a bicentennial gift and symbol of friendship, dedicated in 1976 and later designated Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument No. 187. Modeled on Korea’s famed Emille Bell, it ranks among the world’s largest bells and is richly decorated with Korean and U.S. symbols. Its traditional pavilion, built by South Korean craftsmen, reflects Korean architectural forms and symbolism. Still an active civic landmark, the bell is ceremonially struck on regular monthly and holiday occasions and was restored and rededicated in 2014.
