George H. Scott was an organizer and leader of volunteer firemen, the first president of the Greene County Firemen's Association in 1889, and of the Tri-county Firemen's Association of Columbia, Greene, and Ulster in 1890, which became the Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association in 1897. He also served as treasurer of the Firemen's Association of the State of New York from 1892 to 1901.
