Damascus Travelers Well
History
4
The Damascus Travelers Well, built at an unknown date, originally served as a public water well where travelers and their animals passing through the area could find refreshment and rest, and the Damascus community also benefited from it. Mr. and Mrs. N. W. Watson purchased the land in 1905, and after Mr. Watson’s death it passed to Watson family heirs. After the well was no longer in public use, many young people dropped good luck pennies into it and made wishes for love, prosperity, and success. Because of vandals, the well was eventually filled with dirt, but current and former citizens of Damascus still share many fond memories of it.
