Blodgett Canyon is a steep glacial canyon in southwestern Montana on the east side of the Bitterroot Range in Bitterroot National Forest. Beginning high on the Idaho–Montana border, it descends past Blodgett Lake and extends about 12 miles east to the Bitterroot Valley near Hamilton. Its lower walls tower more than 2,000 feet above Blodgett Creek, with Printz Ridge and Mill Point on the north and Canyon Peak and Romney Ridge on the south. Ice Age glaciers carved its U-shaped valley and left moraines, hanging valleys, cirques, and sheer granite cliffs. The canyon’s granite also makes it a noted climbing destination, and a major fire burned much of the lower canyon in 2000.
