Dr. John and Elizabeth (Jenkins) Logan lived here from 1823 to 1844 in a two-story log home outlined in sandstone. The house faced west, with an apple and peach orchard between it and the road, and the 20' x 50' building had two rooms on the first floor, two on the second, a central hall, and a staircase. It was heated by two large sandstone chimneys and was later sided to give it a more genteel appearance. After the Logans moved into Murphysboro in 1844, the home fell into disrepair. When it partially burned in 1868, the salvageable first floor was moved to a new location. Part of the home's sandstone foundation and chimney base remains visible in the building to the right, and because it was built parallel to the original Ft. Massac to Kaskaskia Road, its remains stand at an angle to the modern street.
