Fort Recovery in western Ohio stands on the site where General Arthur St. Clair’s army suffered a devastating defeat in 1791 and where General Anthony Wayne built a fort in 1793–1794 during the Northwest Indian War. In June 1794, Native forces led by Blue Jacket, with Tecumseh present and British officers reportedly nearby, attacked the fort after striking an American supply column, but the garrison held. Fort Recovery then became a staging point for Wayne’s advance to Fallen Timbers and later served as a key reference in the Treaty of Greenville and boundary-making for the region. The site remains important for its military, political, and memorial history.
