At latitude 45° N, the theoretical halfway point between the North Pole and the Equator lies with the North Pole 3117.55 miles away and the Equator 3097.39 miles away. Because the earth has a spheroidal shape, degrees of latitude in the north are longer than in the south. On Highway 41, the true halfway point between pole and equator is 710 feet north of Menominee, and on Highway 141 it is 3/4 mile north of Beaver. Frank E. Noyes erected this in 1938.
