At Elkton, Lafayette embarked his troops on March 8, 1781, to capture Benedict Arnold. He returned on April 9 and began an overland march to Virginia on April 12, 1781. Washington and Rochambeau, with their combined forces, stopped there on September 6-7, 1781, on their way to Yorktown.
