Gebhart Tavern in Miamisburg, Ohio, preserves the surviving portion of an early nineteenth-century tavern opened by Daniel Gebhart in 1811 as a frontier stopping place for travelers. It became a well-known stop during the nineteenth century, but much of the original property was lost in the Great Dayton Flood of 1913, which heavily damaged Miamisburg. Only the house remained. Restored in 1968 and again in 1975, the structure now serves as a local history museum. Its timber has also supported dendrochronological research, adding importance as evidence for the study of early building history and Miamisburg’s frontier past.
