The Federal Building was designed by architect James Knox Taylor in 1909, entered on the National Register of Historic Places on January 24, 1974, and recognized as a property that significantly contributes to the nation’s cultural heritage. In June 1976, during the presidency of Gerald R. Ford, Jack Eckerd served as Administrator of General Services.
