Bean Hollow State Beach is a small California state beach near Pescadero on the San Mateo County coast, valued for quiet coastal recreation, scenic shoreline, and especially its tide pools, where marine life can be seen at low tide. Swimming is dangerous because of cold water, rip currents, heavy surf, and sharks, so visitors more often fish, picnic, beachcomb, or follow the nature trail. The area also has deep historical roots: the Quiroste occupied and managed this landscape for at least a thousand years, and the Portolá Expedition passed through in 1769 along an Ohlone road. California acquired the property in 1958.
