Pfc. Stanley R. Christianson was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for heroic action against enemy forces at Hill 132 at Seoul, Korea, on September 29, 1950. While manning a listening post in the early morning hours during an enemy attack, he quickly sent another Marine to alert the platoon and remained in position despite knowing he had little chance of escape. He fired relentlessly at the attacking troops until he was fatally struck down. His devotion to duty was responsible for repulsing the attack, with seven enemy dead in the immediate vicinity and a total of 41 destroyed by the platoon. His self-sacrificing action in the face of overwhelming odds sustained and enhanced the finest tradition of the U.S. Naval Service. He was also awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic action in Korea on September 18, 1950. He was one of nine children born to Simon and Inga Christianson on a farm in Wet Coulee near Mindoro, Wisconsin.
