Science & Tech
Air Power Park in Hampton, Virginia, preserves the city’s connection to early American space exploration and aircraft testing. Spread across 15 acres, it combines outdoor displays of vintage aircraft and experimental space launch vehicles from the 1950s and 1960s with an indoor museum reopened after a 2011 renovation. The museum’s eight themed rooms contain more than 325 models of aircraft, spacecraft, and nautical vessels, including exhibits on NASA, the Cold War, general aviation, and several branches of the United States armed forces. With its library, rotating display, and time capsule, the park serves as both a civic space and a memorial to Hampton’s role in flight research and the early Space Age.
