Built in 1873, this wrought-iron, pin-connected Parker (Camelback) truss bridge is one of five known remaining iron bridges in Minnesota. It is 378 feet long, 18 feet wide, and has a single span, with a deck that originally was timber plank. Iron bridges became rare after steel replaced iron as the primary bridge-building material in the 1890s. The bridge carried horse and buggy traffic on Main Street in Sauk Centre from 1873 to 1937, carried highway traffic over the Little Fork River in Koochiching County from 1937 to 2010, and since 2012 has carried bikers, pedestrians, and riders on the Gateway State Trail in Washington County.
