John Bryan State Park is a 752-acre Ohio park centered on Clifton Gorge, where the Little Miami River carved a deep chasm between Yellow Springs and Clifton. Joined with nearby nature preserves, it protects a larger river-valley landscape with both natural and human significance. Before preservation, the gorge formed part of an early transportation and industrial corridor served by the Cincinnati–Pittsburgh stagecoach road and water-powered mills that helped Clifton grow. The park began as John Bryan’s Riverside Farm, assembled in 1896 and bequeathed to Ohio in 1918 for conservation. It became one of Ohio’s first forest parks in 1925 and remains a destination for recreation and scenery.
