Second Nature at Reads Creek, west of Readstown, Wisconsin, combines display gardens, a working nursery, and farm buildings that preserve its agricultural past. The site began in 1973 as a community arboretum created by Royce and Fran Jones alongside a tree nursery and private gardens, then grew into a large collection of more than 100 kinds of trees and about 700 non-woody plants, including 400 perennials. Earlier, the property had operated as the Black Bottom Stock and Grain Farm in the late 19th and early 20th century. Renamed Reed’s Creek Nursery in 2000 after Bill Kappler bought it in 1992, it was badly damaged by flooding in September 2016 and later became known as Second Nature at Reads Creek under Dave and Jen Tubbin.
