During the War Between the States, 1861-1865, Confederate soldiers of Hardin County fought, died, and suffered, and the men and women of Hardin County were remembered for sacrifices made in defense of their homeland. Confederate units formed in Hardin County included the 1st (12th) Confederate Cavalry Regiment Company G, the 21st (Wilson's) Tennessee Cavalry Regiment Companies A, B, F, and H, Captain J.W. Phillip's Company Light Artillery, Crews Tennessee Infantry Regiment, seven companies later consolidated into Company F of the 9th (5th) Kentucky Infantry Regiment and later Company B of the 23rd Tennessee Infantry Battalion, the 1st (Maney's) Tennessee Infantry Regiment Company G, and the 34th Tennessee Infantry Regiment Company B.
