Constructed in 1884, the Timberville covered bridge was 312 feet long and 18 feet wide inside. According to differing accounts, the lumber for the bridge was cut either in town or just west of Timberville, and the stones for the support pier came from Cold Spring, three-quarters of a mile south of town. David J. Driver was the first person to ride a horse across the bridge, and Robert Orebaugh was the last person to drive across it. The bridge spanned the river for 54 years until it was torn down in 1938, and its lumber was hauled to Harrisonburg for use by the city.
