Larry E. Cox graduated from Ottawa-Glandorf High School in 1965, where he earned a berth as an All-State catcher. He spent 17 years as a player in the minor and major leagues and five years as a manager in the Chicago Cubs organization. His last position was bullpen coach for the Cubs, and he was beginning his third year in that role. His major league career included stints with the Philadelphia Phillies, Seattle Mariners, Cubs, and Texas Rangers. While with Philadelphia, he played briefly with the Toledo Mud Hens. A major highlight of his career was hitting two grand-slam home runs in the same game. His dream began on a sandlot in Ottawa, Ohio, and all who knew him as a man and a ballplayer will miss him.
