Lewis and Clark Expedition
History
2
The Lewis and Clark Expedition camped in this vicinity from October 27 1804 to April 7 1805. Captain Meriwether Lewis, a member of St. Louis Lodge No. 111 A.F.&A.M., was possibly the first mason to tread upon what is now North Dakota soil. Captain William Clark was made a mason in that lodge upon his return to St. Loiuis. Their service was honored as a lasting tribute to their courage, heroism, fidelity to trust, and enduring service to country.
