Wyalusing's Lodge Hall
History
Wyalusing's Lodge Hall was long known as Odd Fellows Hall because it belonged for decades to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, though over time its occupants also included the Grange, GAR, Eastern Star, and Masons. The IOOF had been in Wyalusing since 1854 and originally met across the street in the Keeler Block. The earliest published reference to this building appeared in July 1872, when it was identified as being on the Hallock Block. Later that year Hallock purchased it from Churchwell Vanosdoll and his wife Julliet, and in 1876 assessment records identified Mix and Company as the owner after transfer from Hallock. In 1877 the IOOF's Local Hall Association purchased the building, and the order remained its owner for more than 100 years while a variety of other groups also used the premises. In 1885 the Sanborn map identified an IOOF hall and a jewelry store there. In 1887 the first meeting of the Borough Council and the appointment of its first members took place there with the formal incorporation of Wyalusing Borough, and that same year a jail was instituted in the basement. In 1891 the Second Presbyterian Church rented the hall for services until its Church Street building was erected. In 1894 a garage was built beside the building for Wyalusing's first fire company to house equipment and a ladder truck. On March 5, 1980, White Lily Lodge #808 requested consolidation with Laceyville Lodge #439, the request was forwarded to the Grand Lodge on March 12, and the consolidation was formalized on April 30. On April 11, 1981, the IOOF's Grand Lodge approved sale of the building to Wyalusing Masonic Lodge #618, after which Odd Fellows furnishings were removed as the Masons moved in. On April 22, 1993, the Masons paid off the mortgage in full, and in December 2015 the Wyalusing Masons, joining with the Towanda Lodge, donated the building to the Wyalusing Valley Museum Association.
