This section of Canal Lands Park includes part of the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail, operated by the Tuscarawas County Commissioners. North along the towpath are the remains of four lift locks and the foundations of canal structures, and this 3.5-mile stretch ends at I-77. South along the towpath leads about two miles to State Route 800 at Zoarville. The canal here opened to traffic in 1828, carrying passengers and cargo north to Cleveland and later south to the Ohio River, with canal boats pulled by mules or horses along the towpath.
