Capitol Peak is a 2,658-foot mountain in the Black Hills of Capitol State Forest in Washington and one of Thurston County’s highest points, ranking third in the county alongside other prominent summits such as Larch Mountain. Sherman Valley Road, partly paved, leads to its summit, which is occupied by a communications site with cell phone and radio towers. The mountain is especially noted for its sweeping views. In clear weather, the panorama extends west to Elma and the Satsop Nuclear Power Plant, east to Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Adams, and farther north to Puget Sound and the Olympia area.
