Gull Point State Park on West Okoboji Lake serves as the primary state park in Iowa’s Great Lakes region and is notable for both its natural setting and its Depression-era architecture. Much of its historic character came from Civilian Conservation Corps Company 778 in 1934 and 1935, when rustic rubble sandstone structures such as the lodge, boathouse, custodian’s residence, service building, and entrance gates were built or begun. Two sections were listed as historic districts in 1990. The park also features camping, trails, and lake access, while its kettle-and-kame terrain, wetlands, rounded hills, and glacial erratics preserve the legacy of retreating continental glaciers.
