The United Norwegian Lutheran church at Aurland was organized in 1885 in memory of its pioneer members, with Rev Rogne as the first pastor. Services were held in homes and school houses until the present church was built in 1905. Its interior fixtures were furnished by congregation organizations and donors: the altar and pews by the senior Ladies Aid, the altar picture by Einar Nygaard, the organ, altar ring railing, and lamps by the young peoples League, the baptismal font by the Jr. Ladies Aid (Pige Forening), and the pastor's chair by J. Oscar Anderson of Frederick, S. Dak. Services were discontinued in 1953 due to circumstances beyond control, and Rev Hjelmesth was the last pastor. In 1961 the Senior Ladies Aid erected a monument, using a topping rock from the Lewis Tveit farm in Dickey co. N. Dak., presented and transported by him in memory of his brother Andrew Tveit; the design and work were done by John G. Peterson of Frederick S. Dak., with Martin Lein, Gustav Lein, and Emory Gelling as helpers, and altar furnishings were enclosed in a glass vault below.
