Across Montague County, trails and mail routes were made by traders, prospectors, soldiers, homesteaders, stagecoach drivers, surveyors, freighters, and drovers, with campsites and settlements established along them. On June 14, 1986, a wagon train campsite marked the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Texas Independence from Mexico by the Nocona Sesquicentennial Committee.
