On November 15, 1896, western New York witnessed the world's first long distance transmission of alternating electricity through Nikola Tesla's work. Alternating current electricity hydro-generated at Niagara Falls flowed to the North Tonawanda Power Transfer Station and on to Buffalo. This accomplishment was eventually used to help electrically transform the entire planet. North Tonawanda holds an important place in the Nikola Tesla Legacy Corridor as the midpoint between the statue of Nikola Tesla on Goat Island and the statue in Nikola Tesla Park in Buffalo, New York.
