Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park is a large protected landscape in western Tennessee near Memphis along the Mississippi River. Encompassing 12,539 acres, it is Tennessee’s most visited state park and preserves a broad expanse of river-edge forest, wetlands, and recreation land near Shelby Forest. Its setting includes Poplar Tree Lake and Lake Piersol, adding lake environments to its woodlands and riverfront. The park also contains the Meeman Museum and Nature Center, named for conservationist and journalist Edward J. Meeman, former editor of the Memphis Press-Scimitar. With hiking, biking, boating, fishing, camping, picnicking, cabins, and group camping, it is one of the state’s most important outdoor destinations.
