Built in 1893 in Benton, Arkansas, the Gann Building began as the three-room medical office of Dr. Dewell Gann Sr. and later housed the practice of his son, Dewell Gann Jr. It is the only known surviving building made of bauxite, linking it to central Arkansas industry, and local tradition holds that patients supplied labor and materials when they could not pay for care. Its Gothic Revival and High Victorian details add to its rarity. The building later served the community as a library after 1946 and as a museum after 1967, reflecting Benton’s civic and medical history.
