Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, Florida, occupies the former grounds of Marie and William Selby on Sarasota Bay and serves as both a public garden and a research institution. Known for tropical plants and epiphytes, it maintains more than 20,000 living plants, extensive greenhouse and outdoor collections, a major herbarium, and one of the world’s largest spirit collections of preserved flowers. More than 150 expeditions and the work of Selby botanists have added significantly to botanical knowledge, including over 2,000 previously unknown species. Its library, identification centers, journal, and historic Christy Payne House further connect botanical research, education, and preservation.
