Jordan Craters in eastern Oregon is part of the Jordan Craters volcanic field, whose lava flows are the youngest among several large Quaternary basalt fields in that region. Formed about 3,200 years ago, the area was created by basaltic pahoehoe lava emerging from vents spread across the landscape, producing a broad volcanic terrain rather than a single distinct peak. Its importance lies in preserving relatively recent basalt flows within a wider region repeatedly shaped by Quaternary volcanism, making it one of Oregon’s youngest volcanic features.
