Royal Gorge Bridge was the highest suspension bridge in the world. It was completed in seven months and dedicated on Dec. 7, 1929. Chief Engineer George Cole and Consulting Engineer O.K. Peck led the project. The property was placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of Interior. The bridge was modernized to present-day safety and engineering standards by Wilolamb International in 1983, based in Muskogee, Oklahoma, U.S.A.
