First Church in Raleigh County
Faith
Coal Marsh Missionary Baptist Church, built in 1829 of rough logs, became the first church in what was then Raleigh County after Guyandotte Church moved in July 1836 to petition the Greenbrier Convention for a new church at Coal River Marshes, then in Fayette County. After approval, all members living east of Guyandotte Mountain were dismissed, and a 3-man presbetery was appointed to constitute the new church on October 29, 1836.
