Boone's Cave is the only cave in Kentucky historically verified as used by Daniel Boone. After his companion John Stuart was killed in January, 1770, becoming the first recorded white man killed by Indians in Kentucky, Boone spent the rest of the winter alone in the cave. In summer he was joined by his brother Squire, and together they continued to explore and hunt before returning to North Carolina.
