Thomas Lee, born in Westmoreland County in 1690, was the fourth son of Richard Lee and Latitia Corbin. He served as resident agent for proprietor of the Northern Neck in 1711, naval officer of south side of Potomac in 1713, gentleman justice of Westmoreland in 1715, member of the House of Burgesses in 1726, 1728, and 1732, and councilor of state and judge of the Supreme Court of Judication in the colony of Virginia in 1732. A leader in the movement that resulted in the Treaty of Lancaster in 1744, he helped unite Virginia with Maryland and Pennsylvania in a joint effort to protect their boundaries and common interests and to open the Ohio Basin to English settlement. He was president of his majesty's council and commander in chief of the colony and dominion of Virginia from 1749 to 1750. Married in 1722 to Hannah Ludwell, daughter of Colonel Philip and Hannah Harrison Ludwell, he built Stratford Hall between 1722 and 1730 and died there on November 14, 1750.
