“The Iron Horse in Grand Rapids”
Transportation
1
In 1871-72, the railroad arrived in Grand Rapids and Centrailia. A railroad bridge replaced log river rafting and the loss of life on the dangerous river rapids. A modern iron bridge was built to withstand the early spring thaws, and long, tiring stagecoach and wagon rides became a thing of the past.
