Founders Cemetery occupies land bought in 1819 by Joseph Thornhill and later owned by Cullen Conerly and Ephraim Rushing. Early residents of Conerly's, later named Tylertown, are buried there, including more than thirty children. Those buried include William Tyler, for whom Tylertown was named; the pioneer William Thornhill; merchants James and Mary Conerly; and members of the Magee, Lampton, Collins, Rushing, Holmes, Ball, and Simmons families. Soldiers of the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the Civil War are also buried there. Burials ended in 1919.
