Built in 1929 near Old Faithful geyser in Yellowstone National Park, this trailside museum helped visitors understand the park’s thermal features and became an early model for later National Park Service visitor information centers. Funded as the first of four Yellowstone trailside museums through a grant from Laura Spelman Rockefeller and designed by architect Herbert Maier, it was a low, rustic log-and-stone building set between the Old Faithful Inn and Old Faithful Lodge. Its amphitheater and native plant garden supported public interpretation. Demolished in 1971, it remained significant for helping shape how Yellowstone presented its landscape to visitors.
