Woodford State Fish and Wildlife Area in Woodford County is a 2,900-acre Illinois park and wildlife management area along the Illinois River, with most of its landscape shaped by water, backwaters, and floodplain habitat. Of its acreage, 2,462 acres are water, and a 1,400-acre refuge supports waterfowl. Bottomland forest of cottonwood, silver maple, ash, and willow shelters deer, raccoon, muskrat, mink, beaver, and more than 200 recorded bird species. The area is significant for combining protected river habitat with public recreation, including boating, fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, and birdwatching along a wetland-rich stretch of the river.
