Grand Lake St. Marys Lighthouse

Grand Lake St. Marys Lighthouse, also called the Northwoods Lighthouse, was built in 1923 on a peninsula along the lake’s northern shore east of Celina in western Ohio. Modeled after Cornwall’s Eddystone Lighthouse, the concrete tower rises 50 feet from a stone foundation and is topped by a bronze-and-glass dome with a weathervane. Though visually striking in an inland, flat region far from the sea, it also served as a working navigational aid from April through November under a U.S. Coast Guard license. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, it is valued for both its architecture and its rare historic presence in inland western Ohio.
