Arkansas native James Euwin Edmiston came to Texas in 1835 and settled near present Webberville. During the Texas Revolution he served as a Texas Ranger and took part in several Indian battles in this area. In 1842 he was involved in the Woll Expedition and the Archive War. He later served in two Travis County Ranger companies before moving to Sonora, California, in 1849. For his military service to the Republic of Texas, he was awarded a pension from the State of Texas.
