Sayville National Wildlife Refuge is a 127-acre protected area in West Sayville on Long Island, managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as part of the Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge and the Long Island National Wildlife Refuge Complex. It is the only land-locked refuge in that complex. Its oak-pitch pine forest and grasslands provide habitat for migratory songbirds, raptors, and the largest New York population of the federally endangered sandplain gerardia. Established in 1992 from former Federal Aviation Administration land and expanded with a second transfer completed in 2007, it preserves a small but ecologically important inland landscape.
