A steel girder in the memorial center was recovered from Tower No. 2 of the World Trade Center and gifted to the Town of Yanceyville by D. H. Griffin Companies of Greensboro, North Carolina. The memorial plaza is dedicated to the victims of September 11, 2001 and the subsequent War on Terror, and it was established through the support and contribution of former Senator Hugh B. Webster, Senator Phil Berger, and the North Carolina General Assembly.
