The Latvian Museum in Rockville, Maryland, preserves and presents Latvian history, culture, and the experience of Latvians in the United States. Serving the Latvian American community of the greater Washington, D.C., area, it is part of a larger community setting that includes the American Latvian Association’s national headquarters, a Latvian Evangelical Lutheran church, and a Latvian Saturday school. Founded in 1978 under the Latvian Institute of the American Latvian Association, it began with support from a National Endowment for the Humanities grant. Its notable collection of traditional hand-woven textiles highlights everyday cultural expression, while the museum also serves as a center for sharing Latvian identity and Latvian American history.
